At my old age, I have finally fallen in love with working out. I really look forward to it now in a way I didn't when I was younger. This is really a pity since I could have been in much better shape now if I had worked out regularly when I was younger. I work out at least four days a week: two days of cardio, two days of weights (followed by light cardio). There's something Zen about sweating it up on an elliptical machine for 35 minutes. There's something calming about doing bench presses and lunge walks and lat pulls. On a practical level, I need to work out and lose some weight. I'm not getting any younger, so doing what I can now to be healthier will only be beneficial in the future. After five years of a gym membership, only now have I fallen in love with working out.
The love of exercise just got kicked up a notch, due to a birthday present from Tom last week:
Oh yes. I've now caught up to 2003. I finally have an iPod. A fancy blue 16GB iPod Nano, to be specific.
The main reason why Tom got it for me was to help me work out. I've seen plenty of people at the gym armed with their iPods, ear buds, and bottles of water, going to town on various machines. I've tried before with a Discman... which was not terribly successful, as you can imagine. But now, after having worked out with an iPod for over a week, I finally get it. I'll get caught up in the shuffle of songs in my work out, and suddenly I'm pushing harder. Doing cardio, the time goes by so much faster than before. So, I get it. To prove my point, I'm listening to it right now. And I'm smiling.
Finally got my iPod. Maybe in five years, I'll get a TiVo.
