Drop Kick, Push

So far six newspapers have dropped Ann Coulter's column due to her hateful comments at CPAC. Well, good.  To me, the actions people are making to put pressure on newspapers for dropping the column are not censorship.  Censorship is an act of government to prevent free speech.  These actions are using the marketplace to help make changes.  No government involvement and the private sector helping to shape how people be treated?  Wow, sounds like a Republican dream.  Oh, sorry, old school Republican dream.

Strange Bedfellows Indeed

The Conservative Political Action Conference is underway right now in Washington, DC, where conservatives gather to talk about the future, blah blah blah.  One of the many numerous speakers there was Ann Coulter. You'd think with all of the big minds in conservative politics there they would come up with some intriguing policies... or a good witty rejoinder.  But instead, we get this from Ann about Sen. John Edwards:

“I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards , but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”

As you know, I have a huge problem with the aforementioned f-word Ann used.  Apparently the top three Republican presidential hopefuls have a problem with it too.  Oh, Ann.  You're making me agree with Mitt Romney?!  For that reason alone you must be stopped.

On another note, don't you think this... third-grade level of name calling just smacks of desperation?  You can't come up with something legitmate to say about John Edwards, so you just call him a name?  That's just kinda sad.  And finally, this quote from one of my favorite films, Blazing Saddles:

Sherriff Bart:  Can't you see this is the last act of a desperate man?
Howard Johnson: I don't care if it's the first act of "Henry V."  We're leavin'!

Ann Coulter Loses It

I have very low tolerance for Basic Cable News discussion shows. 'Cause, frankly, it's all about people shouting over each other and talking over each other and not listening. A huge pet peeve of mine is when people don't listen, and those shows are all about not listening. It's all posturing and spin and blah-blah-blah. But part of doing these shows is dealing with this with a smile on your face and not losing your cool. A lot of pundits do this, which is one of the reasons I don't like them in the first place. But, it's a convention that they have set up: yell over each other while smiling the whole time. So, when someone actually loses their composure, it's notable. Especially when it's Ann Coulter.

For the unintiated, Ann Coulter is a best-selling author and conservative pundit who specializes in books demonizing liberals and saying horrible, nasty things to get attention. Based on principle, I will not link to any articles about the comments she's made 'cause frankly, she doesn't need any more attention for those.

Thanks to the wonderful people at Crooks And Liars, we can now see how Ann loses her cool. Ann was on "Hannity and Colmes" and the fill-in for Alan Colmes is a blonde woman I've never met but I now really like. The clip starts with how most of these shows go: a guest (Democratic strategist Michael Brown) is defending his point while the host (Sean Hannity) completely talks over him. Typical for this kind of show. It then goes to the Blonde Host doing the same thing to Ann Coulter, after Ann insists that things are going "swimmingly" in Afganistan. Which is just not the case. Blonde Host then says it completely isn't true and says how the Administration has ignored going after Osama bin Laden, and then Ann just can't take it anymore. Ann talks over other people but suddenly people talk over her?Awwwwwwww, poor widdle lamb.

I've honestly wanted to blog about Ann Coulter for a while now, but I haven't had the right opportunity until now. The fact that I even have an opinion on her means that she's accomplishing part of her job. She says horrible, nasty things on television to get attention for herself, in the self-cast role as a pop culture villian. You know who else does this? Omarosa. The only real difference between the two is that Ann has a better literary agent.

I hope this is the beginning of the end of her popularity. This incident, on Fox News I might add, shows she's not the cool, collected ice princess she pretends to be. Ann Coulter is a bully who can't take out what she dishes and her hypocritical nature has been shown. In the immortal words of Blondie, don't go away mad, Ann, just go away.

Hold Me Closer, Tiny Tucker

Tucker Carlson To Be on Dancing With The Stars

This is either the funniest prank I've come across in a while or the best news ever. If it is indeed true, I may just have to invest in a TiVo.
